Peacefully at Lakeridge Health Ajax-Pickering Hospital on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at the age of 73.

Born March 27, 1946 in Toronto, Ontario, Barry was an avid car enthusiast and Nascar fan. He enjoyed fishing, going to Elvis shows, and spending time with family at the trailer (Hastings, Ontario).

His twin sons, Marcus (Monica) and David (Kelly), and step-daughter, Tanya (Reade), along with his 10 grandchildren (Devon, Mykaela, Lilli, Chloe, Erica, Jaiden, Amber, Matthew, Jaime and Bryce) and 2 great-grandchildren (Noah and Elizabeth) were his pride and joy. Barry battled many ailments over the years, but his strength and positive attitude always pulled him through. His loving wife, Kay (Holley), was his unfailing support and was by his side every step of the way. He will be missed by all who knew him, especially his brothers Roger (Pierrette), Guy and Lewis, his sister, Lori (Rob), as well as best friends Don and Lee-Anne McAllister. Predeceased by his parents, Melville and Geraldine and his brother, Kelly.

Honouring his generous wish, the gift of sight was shared to another in need.  It was his wish for others to also consider organ, tissue or full body donation. Donations can be made through the Trillium Gift of Life Network or through the educational facility of your choice accepting full body donations, as well as to any other charity of your choice.

A celebration of life will be held at the Carruthers Marsh Pavilion, 955 Ashbury Blvd., Ajax ON on Sunday March 22, 2020 at 1pm. Please visit Barry's obituary notice on Facebook.

My father's name was Melville, not Melvin!

My recollections of Barry were from the 60s and 70s when I was the freckled-faced younger sister of Barry's first wife, Linda J. Vodden Hauley (Marcus and David's Mum). I remember the happy times of spending Sunday evenings with Linda and Barry at Barry's house with all his family and that's where his parents, Gerry and Mel first introduced me to coffee. Funny, the things we remember!
Barry inherited his natural mischievousness from his Dad and we were all subject to his jokes and jabs - with always a twinkle in his eye. He loved his cars, drove a very large car in which he helped Linda learn to drive; and when they went to car races, I was always grateful to be allowed to tag along. Barry elaborated on the funny jokes from the announcers just to see my reaction. I remember some of those too, but won't repeat them here.
I remember Barry with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye which his boys have inherited. Much love to Marcus and David and all who surrounded him. May he rest in peace.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Barry. He was my high school sweetheart, my first husband and the father of our two wonderful sons, Marcus and David. We had over 20 years together with many wonderful memories. You will always be remembered fondly for your quick wit and your love for our family. It was lovely to see you in recent years at family gatherings. You never lost your sense of humour and teasing ways. Rest in peace, dear Barry.

Barry was the first brother in law that I ever had. When Linda and he were married in ‘67 I cried. Thought I was loosing a sister, soon realized I had gained a wonderful new family, which were the Carltons. Barry made sure Lori and I had many happy hours together growing up. He would dance, tickle, joke, laugh and played a mean Alley Cat on the piano. I loved him like the brother I never had. To all the Carltons, I wish you all love and peace. Rest In Peace Barry, love Kathryn xxoo

Hello,
Due to circumstances beyond our control, we will be rescheduling Barry's Celebration of Life to a later date. Obviously, the Town of Ajax is quite busy with responding to calls to cancel events so I am unable to confirm another date at this time or whether or not it will be at the same venue. Rest assured that as soon as we can confirm new details for this important event, we will pass along the information. Please keep Barry in your thoughts and in your hearts and hopefully we can reschedule this again sooner than later. Thank you all for patience and understanding ❤
