It is with great sadness that the family of Dorothy Lydia Breadon (nee Greenaway) announces her passing on the evening of October 31st, 2021 at Spruce Lodge Long Term Care in Stratford, Ontario.

Dorothy was 96 years of age at the time of her passing, born on May 7th, 1925, in Ballinamallard, Co. Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, to parents George Greenaway and Lizzie Astley.

Predeceased by her beloved husband John A. Breadon (1919-2002) whom she married on May 6th, 1948 in Northern Ireland. Sadly, she was also predeceased by her eldest daughter Kathleen (1951-May 5, 2021).
Predeceased by her siblings Richard “Richie” (Emily), Francis “Frank” (Lorraine), George “Geordie” (Anne), and Kathleen (David Johnston).

Missed dearly by her surviving children Audrey, Eileen, and Lorraine. Loving Nana to Colin, Beatrice, Rachel, Andrea, Ryan, Ian, Megan, Alexis, Moya, Lydia, Tara, and Eric.

Proud great-grandmother to Emma, William, Miles, Elliot, Charlotte, Leif, Jacob, Joshua, Evan, Genesis, Anina, Kezia, Dahlia, Graysen, and Liam.

In her youth she lived at Hollybank, Lisbellaw, where her family ran their business, G. Greenaway & Sons; a sawmill.  Around 1943, she worked at a relative's dairy farm, for about a year, where she assisted with reaching their grade A dairy standard.

Dorothy also worked in Belfast at the Parliament Buildings where she mastered her art of baking pies. She perfected her sewing skills in both England and later Canada in the textile industry.  She was a beautiful knitter and loved tending to her flower garden. Dorothy was an animal lover.  She especially loved her dogs.  Dorothy was well-read and had an interest in history.

From the 1960s until retirement, she worked at the Queensway General Hospital in Central Sterile Reprocessing (CSR) and assisted, as needed, in the nursery.  She had a great love of children and took an active part in the lives of her grandchildren.

Dorothy will be remembered as a gentle and kind-hearted individual who lived for her family. We are very grateful to the staff at Spruce Lodge for their compassionate care. A private family service is to be held at a later date.  We would appreciate any donations to be made to a local Ontario SPCA or Humane Society.

Messages and condolences may be left at www.cremationalternatives.com. Please visit Dorothy's obituary notice on Facebook.

My condolences to the family and loved ones, of this wonderful woman. I grew to love her very quickly, over the few months I knew her. As I would do her hair, she would share stories of her sister and when she was young. I am grateful to have met Audrey, also. Your care and compassion is something I admired. I know your Mom always looked forward to seeing you. She didn't use words to say this, but she made it very clear. Im sorry for your loss.

Forever missing Dorothy, she was the reason I fell in love with being a PSW. She was funny sweet and had a little bit of sass to her. I looked forward going into work everyday to assist her with her adls. She really was one of a kind, I still think of her often.
