Jean Grace Brubacher

In celebration for the life and legacy of Jean Grace BRUBACHER (April 4, 1931 – February 4, 2024) Jean was 92 years young and passed away peacefully in Guelph.

Jean was happily married for 72 years to husband John(deceased) and devoted mother of her six children and their spouses; David and Lynn, Thomas and Wendy, Scott and Christine Gray, Duff and Cathy, Sandy and Derek Blackburn, Lisa and Ralph Neate; and her fifteen grandchildren and their spouses Ben Brubacher(Janine), Dana Sturman(Dan), Erin Brubacher(Cory),  Ian Brubacher(Meg), Laura Blackburn(Richard), Mark Brubacher, Eric Brubacher, Emily Brubacher, Sarah Blackburn(Wesley), Alex Brubacher, Jill Brubacher(Tom), Marley Neate, James Neate, Jake Brubacher, Jared Brubacher; and her ten great-grandchildren Jordan, Ella, Owen, Kaitlyn, Patrick, Isabelle, Evelyn, Baker, Brady and Olivia.

Born during the Great Depression to Grace and Albert, she navigated her early years amidst the backdrop of wartime. Her childhood summers were blissfully spent in Ahmic Harbour, creating cherished memories with her siblings, Tom(deceased) and Edie. The winters found her joyously skating and exploring the banks of the Grand River close to her Galt residence. Her life took a romantic turn when she met a student from Waterloo Lutheran College, John, who captivated her with his insightful lecture on nature versus nurture to nursing students, winning her heart. Soon after, they embarked on a journey of family life, filled with joyful summers in Southampton, beachside bliss, and memorable family gatherings that became legendary. Known for her effortless smile, quick wit, infectious laugh and the welcoming warmth of treats and tea, her loyalty to her family was profound and unwavering, embodying the ultimate support system. She maintained her glamour and humour to the very end, insisting on her “pink in the afternoon” lipstick and pearls before lunch, a testament to her vibrant spirit and enduring elegance.

Jean's life was enriched by her love for her book club meetings and bridge club nights, highlighting her appreciation for social camaraderie. Her deep affection for family and friends stood at the core of her being, cherishing these relationships above all else.

A private family celebration of life will be held to honor Jean's memory.
