Richard Warwick Williams, P.Eng, MBA

After a short stay in hospital, Richard Warwick Williams of Oro-Medonte, Ontario (previously Oakville) passed away on April 15, 2023 at age 75.

Rick was a very successful engineer and businessman, but family was of paramount importance. His parents, the late Dr. Al and Betty Williams, knew him as a rambunctious and fearless youngster. Rick and his first wife, Raine Greenwood (Henry Shewfelt), raised their son the late Dean Williams (Christina Ingraldi) and their daughter Michon Williams (Michael Weissglas). At their home on Lake Simcoe, Rick and his late wife Linda Crane Williams relished grandparenting his precious grandchildren Aaron, Sam and Leah (Michon Williams and Michael Weissglas) and Eva (Dean Williams and Christina Ingraldi).

His brother David Williams (Carol Brayman) and sister Marilyn Lurz (Peter Dowsett) knew him as a loyal, steadfast and caring friend, as did his sister-in-law Barbara Minett (Bob Ferguson). Rick’s enthusiastic duties as uncle extended to Frank and John (Dominique Gendron) Williams and Michael and Evelyn (Brian Wendler) Lurz, and his step-nephews and -nieces.

Wherever he was - in his engineering career or sailing from the Oakville Yacht Squadron - Rick accumulated a wide set of great friends. He embraced many hobbies and interests including his two sports cars, traveling, collecting and operating ham radios, listening to music, reading, and discussing local and world events. His sailing adventures took him throughout much of Lake Ontario, including the Thousand Islands, and reached as far as the Caribbean and the North and South Atlantic.

Sailors don’t get lost; they just find a safer harbour. Life loved Rick and he loved life, embracing it until the end. His great sense of humour and his laughter will be missed and will echo over the lake forever.

We thank Rick’s many medical specialists including the Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Munk Wing, Toronto General Hospital for their tremendous efforts.

Donations to the Canadian Lung Association or Toronto General Hospital are welcome. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Please visit Rick's obituary notice on Facebook.
